Jerusalem Prayer List June 8, 2017
By Joseph Shulam
We have just arrived in Finland to the home of our dear brothers Keijo and Salme Lindeman in the city of Nokia. It is Thursday and as it is the day that I normally write the Jerusalem prayer list – I am faithful to my habit and writing this prayer list before we enter the Sauna. In Finland guest are usually initiated with a welcome by invitation to the Sauna, and we are guest so we are going to the sauna with our very gracious hosts of near four decades. Keijo is a professor of electrical engineering and Salme is a professional cook. They came to Israel in the 1980’s to study Hebrew and they actually caught the Restoration principles of which they instinctively received earlier. This week-end we will conduct the annual Restoration seminar in the middle of Finland. Several hundred brothers and sisters from all around Finland gather together for a long week-end to share fellowship and study together. We have several hundred brothers and sisters all through Finland who have committed to the Restoration of the Church and the Restoration of Israel. Every year in the second week-end of the month of June we hold this seminar and brothers and sisters gather from all around the country to fellowship and study the Word of God. Tomorrow, the Lord willing, we will start the seminar and enjoy the meetings and teachings and the fellowship around the Table with folk of kindred faith. However, there is one special prayer request for these dear brothers and sisters. We have so many brothers and sisters who have aged in these near 40 years and we ask you to pray with us for the “changing of the guards”. Pray with us that the younger generation of leaders will take charge. The older generation are getting ill and have many health challenges. In fact here is a short list of some of the older generation leaders who need healing:
Salme L., Risto and Anita V., Erkki and Sirpa, Keijo and Salme, Kari A., Anna-Majia, Markus Huikula, Pekka and Anjia O., Mauno and Hilka L., Hillel T., and Pekka R.
Please mention these dear brothers and sisters in your prayer and ask God’s mercy in healing these dear brothers and sisters.
Now, please pray for the younger Generation of leaders in Finland!
Mika and Anne T., Mika and Ester L., David and Tuuli H., the young families of the Kohtala and Purra family, and the young men of the Tani family.
Like Kenny Rogers we all have to learn how to like our lives in the Lord and know when to hold them and when to fold them in life’s poker game. The older leaders have to know when to stop leading and inspire the young to know when to pick up the batten and take off running forward on their own. This is true in Finland and it is also true in Israel and Brazil and other places where the Lord has blessed His Kingdom with younger and very talented leadership.
We all need your prayers!
This week’s portion of the Torah reading comes from Numbers chapter 8 – 12. The phrase that has caught my attention is simple to understand, but complicated to apply: “So the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.” This phrase is repeated many times in the Torah and the interesting thing is that Moses did as the Lord has commanded him, and Aaron did as the Lord has commanded Moses, and the children of Israel did as the Lord has commanded Moses. As leaders in the Kingdom of God the problem starts from the top of the command chain. If Moses did not do as the Lord had commanded him, the children of Israel would not do as Moses has commanded them. In the Israeli army since the 1930’s the motto of the leadership and officers has been and still is: Follow Me! For this reason, the number of officers in the Israeli army wo fall in battle is so high because they are an example that their soldier can follow. When I read the Parasha and saw how many times this phrase is repeated I was touched deeply by some of my own leadership problems. I have said many times don’t do what I do, do what I say. The young leadership could have easily lost trust if they did not know me better and see my life over a period of many years. Here is a lesson for leadership in the Body of the Messiah world-wide. If you believe that God has commanded you to do something! If you claim that God has spoken to you and asked you to do something – just do it as the Lord has commanded you. If you don’t do the things you claim that God has commanded you don’t expect that your congregation and your younger leaders are going to do it. The greatness of Moses’ leadership was not only in the genius of Moses but also in his ability and willingness to do what God has commanded him and infect the people of Israel in the wilderness to do that which Moses has commanded them.
Preachers and Elders are in the place of Moses doing their most to lead their congregants through the wilderness of 21st Century pitfalls and valleys of a breaking society, morality, family, and churches full of bells and whistles of every kind except the plain truth of God’s Word. There is talk of love, and grace, and faith, but almost no talk or action on loving the stranger or being gracious to different. There is talk of being gracious towards the sinners but no faithfulness to God’s commands. There is talk of outreach and missions, but no hospitality to the Jewish or Muslim neighbors next door.
The problems in most of the Western Church is from the top – from the leadership that is not an example of how the disciples of Yeshua the Messiah need to live, but an example of how to get rich and powerful economically by fleecing their members. Let us all learn from Moses and from the children of Israel in the wilderness. These children of Israel in the 40 years of wondering were the good, the bad, and the ugly, all in one community and the Lord was still faithful to them and bring them into the land of His promise to Abraham, the Land of Canaan – the Land of Israel. Just please look at a few examples from Moses and the children of Israel:
Ex. 12:28 Then the children of Israel went away and did so; just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.
Lev. 8:29 And Moses took the breast and waved it as a wave offering before the LORD. It was Moses’ part of the ram of consecration, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Lev. 9:10 But the fat, the kidneys, and the fatty lobe from the liver of the sin offering he burned on the altar, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Lev. 24:23 Then Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and they took outside the camp him who had cursed, and stoned him with stones. So the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.
Num. 8:22 After that the Levites went in to do their work in the tabernacle of meeting before Aaron and his sons; as the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.
Num. 9:5 And they kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month, at twilight, in the Wilderness of Sinai; according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did.
Num. 15:23 all that the LORD has commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day the LORD gave commandment and onward throughout your generations
Please pray for Marcia and for me. We are just now starting a long trip. We are staring in Finland tomorrow with the seminar in honor of Maria Tucker. After the seminar, we will travel to the city of Vaasa, and from Vaasa to Seinejokie, and from there to Turku, and finally end with a seminar in Helsinki.
From Finland, we are flying to Nashville, Tennessee, to teach and have meetings in Middle Tennessee and in the Summer Celebration of Lipscomb University. Finally, I will end my trip to the USA in Dallas, Texas and return home from Dallas in the middle of July. As soon as I return home to Israel there is a major remodeling job in our home. I need your prayers for that job both in the getting the house ready and in the end in cleaning the house and setting it in order. Marcia will remain in the USA with Barry first and with her family in East Tennessee second and finally with Danah and Noaam in California before returning home in the end of August. The remodeling in our home is not by choice, our garden has been leaking water on to the cars that are parked in the parking of the building and we have to remove the garden and extend our paved porch. We also have to take out a bathtub and make a shower because of leaking water from underneath. It will make it easier for Marcia to walk into a shower than to climb into the bathtub. It is an expensive ordeal, but with God’s grace we will overcome it and be able to settle into our home without complaints from our neighbors.
As you can all see Europe is being hit by ISIS terrorism around twice per month or even more often. ISIS terrorism has hit even Teheran the capital of Iran. The Arab leaders are repudiating Qatar as a source of encouraging Islamic terrorism around the world. Please pray that the sane and moderate Arab countries will wake up and see that terrorism is not to their advantage. They need to understand that what goes around comes around and in the end, they will be the victims of the monstrous radical terrorism that some of them with the aid of others in the West have created.
Keep praying for the young leaders in Netivyah and for the Roeh Israel Congregation. We need inspiration and initiative and working together with the same flame of the Holy Spirit that will empower and enable and inspire the 21stcommunity in Jerusalem like the 1st Community in Jerusalem.

Pray for Roger, a dear brother who stands with so many good works and with Netivyah. He needs wisdom and peace and success in his work and life.
God bless all of you who pray for the Salvation of Israel and the World. We all need to make our Horizonte wider and have at least the dream and the desire to see the entire world kneel before the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and be dressed in white on that day when the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall arise. If we don’t have that desire we will also not do things to make this happen. If we don’t have the faith we shall not be focused on that which is in God’s heart and desire.
