The Jerusalem Prayer List – March 31st, 2011
by Joseph Shulam
Frank Sinatra sang a song called “High Hopes.” The words of this song were written by Cahn van Heusen. Here are the words of this song:
Next time your found, with your chin on the ground there is a lot to be leanred, so look around. Just what makes that little old ant think he'll move that rubber tree plant? Anyone knows an ant, can't move a rubber tree plant. But he's got high hopes, he's got high hopes, he's got high apple pie, in the sky hopes.
So any time your getting low instead of letting go just remember that ant, Oops there goes another rubber tree plant.
When troubles call, and your back is to the wall there is a lot to be learned, that wall could fall.
Once there was a silly old ram throught he'd punch a hole in a dam. No one could make that ram, scram. He kept butting that dam.
Cause he had high hopes, he had high hopes, he had high apple pie, in the sky hopes.
So any time your feeling bad in stead of feeling sad just remember that ram. Oops there goes a billion kilowatt dam.
All problems are just a toy balloon they'll be busted soon, they're just bound to go pop. Oops there goes another problem kerplop.
I like this song of Frank Sinatra, and especially this week this is a good song. I suppose that all of us who are disciples of Yeshua the Messiah must have high hopes, and we like the ant can and must move that rubber tree plant, and we must keep butting the million kilowatt dam, because we do have hight hopes. Our hopes are not in our strength but in the strength of the ONE who is in us.
Last Monday was the date that our case was supposed to be heard in the Supreme Court of Israel. We have been fighting “city hall” to get a building licenses for near 10 years. The Supreme Court is actually the last station in this case. Whatever is decided by the Supreme Court of Israel will be the final word about our right to build and remodel our building in Jerusalem. Well, our case was not heard last Monday. On Sunday afternoon we received a fax from the court postponing our hearing from Monday, March 28th, 2011, to October 6th, 2011. So, we need to again have “high hopes” and be like the Ram that kept butting the dam, and like that ant that moved the rubber tree plan. We keep praying and keep hoping and we will also keep fighting both on the spiritual level and in all the legal ways until justice is done and we can remodel and build up our building. In fact with the Earthquake in Japan we all remember that in Israel there are also big Earthquakes every 80 to 100 years. If there is going to be an earthquake in Jerusalem our building for sure is coming down because it was build near 100 years ago and it has no steel structure in the building and no elements that will strengthen the building for a time of earthquake. We must get the building permits for both safety reasons and because simply we don't have enough room for the people that we already have in the congregation. Please continue to pray for us and support this building project because I believe that it is one of the most important cases dealing with our civil liberties and basic rights of any democratic state.
Passover is fast approaching and our food distribution will include special foods for the Passover Holiday. We plan to give all Kosher for Passover food to all of the people who receive food from us. We will give a big package of Matzot to each and also special Passover cookies and other food stuff that will make the holiday both kosher and well provided for for all the hundreds of people who receive food from us. Please pray for Israel's social services and the many organizations that feed the poor and provide the most basic of needs to Israel's poor population.
We are also preparing beautiful backpacks for the soldiers who are disciples of Yeshua and serving in the Israeli army. Each backpack will be filled with both food stuff that the soldiers like and need, and also with other things that these soldiers need, like special socks and shoe polish etc. We have so many wonderful youth from our congregation that are now serving the in the army. Every congregation in Israel has some youth serving in the army and these youth are so wonderful and strong and they have such a good reputation and example. Please help us to bless these soldiers and show them how much the whole community of disciples of Yeshua appreciates their dedication and services.
My new book is out in English. The book deals with the relationship between God and Israel and Israel and the Church. We also have out a DVD made about the conference that we held in Portugal in cooperation with our brothers from Brazil and Portugal, and with the city of Castelo de Vide, and Trancoso, in Portugal. This DVD is a kind of capture of the main issues and message of the conference in Castlo de Vide. We are sending it for free to people who are interested to receive it and share it with others. You can write us and request it. We mail it for free, but we would appreciate if some would cover at least the cost of making the DVD and mailing.
We continue to ask you to keep praying for our sick and in fact for all the brothers and sisters that you know anywhere that are sick and need God's healing hands to touch them. This of course includes the many hundreds of thousands of people in the Fukushima region in Japan among whom there are also at least five brothers in the faith who are working it the Nuclear plant and endangering their lives. Among our sick are those who are chronically ill from our congregation in Jerusalem and also in Brazil and Japan and the United States. We continue to pray for those in Jerusalem: Ahuva, Liora, Leah, Ilana, Sara and Zvi, Sarit, Dr. Tania, Ludmila, and Marcia. We continue to pray for the healing of Ruby in Oklahoma, and Marcia's father H.E. Saunders, and her mother June Saunders, in Tennessee. WE also pray for Danah our daughter and Noaam our granddaughter in California, and Paulo in Brazil, and Tim Tucker in Finland. There is also a long list that personally I pray for and I am sure that you too will have a long list of people that you pray for personally. Please use this great privilege given to you from God to have a priestly role and intercede for the sick.
Please keep praying for us all and for all the Netivyah and Roeh Israel staff and those many who are volunteering their time and their talent and service for the Lord in Netivyah and in the Roeh Israel Congregation.
I can't write about many things that are going on here in our great city of Jerusalem but I can tell you that the good Lord God of Israel is working hard to bring Israel to the place it ought to be.
God be praised and glorified in you,
Joseph Shulam
