The Jerusalem Prayer List - Thursday, October 22, 2009
By Joseph Shulam

I am sitting now in the largest church building in Japan.  This is the first day of the second round of the Asia Messianic Forum.  The first round was in Osaka and we were two days in session some 24 hours of sessions in 48 hours.  May be only in Asia can you have such an intense conference and the crowed stays and half of the people don’t disappear into the next door shopping center.   We have three of us from Israel who are the main speakers in this conference and today in Tokyo, Japan, we are near 1000 people gathered to speak about the Restoration of the Church and the Restoration of faith in Israel.  For Japan a gathering of near 1000 people to study the Word of God and to talk about the Restoration is a very big event.  We are living in interesting days and the Gospel is continuing so far westward that it is reaching the Far East.  At one time Paul was called to Macedonia which is Europe and the Gospel moved out of Asia into Europe, and from Europe it moved more Westward to the Americas, and now it is crossing the Pacific Ocean and continuing going on Westward and reaching and the center of Christian growth now days is no longer in North America but in Asia.  The biggest churches in the world now are in Korea.  These churches are Methodist and Presbyterian and although they are big and growing they too need Restoration.  It is so interesting the in this gathering that I am sitting right now there are gathered people from so many different denominations and they are all gathered together around one point that is their interest in the salvation of Israel.  There is no other biblical subject that could melt the theological differences and cause the different Christian denominational leaders to come together.  I think that this is a kind of use of Israel (rightly or wrongly) that like in the first century the Good News is coming again from Jerusalem.  Israel is what the Bible is built on geographically and the Good News went westward and it is on it’s way back to Jerusalem all the way around the globe.

I am here to teach the Word of God and in the four days that I am in Japan I did not have a chance to mention our financial needs in Israel and the need to raise the funds for the building, but even without any mention of our needs already people have come and handed me near 15,000 dollars that will go toward the soup-kitchen to feed the poor and for the building project that is soon going to be launched in Jerusalem.

Please keep praying for the Shulam family and our health.  We all have health needs, Marcia, and Noaam and Danah, and Barry and Beth, and even I have problems with my health.  Please pray for the sick brothers and sisters in Israel.  We have at least half a dozen people in our congregation who are over 80 or even 85 years old and this is still a challenge of how to take care of these wonderful brothers and sisters who have lived their lives for the Lord and now are in need of someone to care for them.  I have heard very little encouraging words and no interest to give toward the establishment of a home for the elderly in Jerusalem.  I did get several people from Finland and Korea and Brazil who have stated that they are willing to volunteer as workers in such a home, but there is no home yet.  I pray that the Lord will quicken some of you rich people to make a major sacrificial gift to enable us to rent a facility and start housing some of these older soldiers of the cross and show them the grace that passes understanding because caring for our older brothers and sisters is going to rain a blessing on the younger generation too.

We have our sick brothers and sisters in the United States and in Brazil and we have to keep these dear brothers in our prayers daily and believe that God will heal them.  We have Ruby in Oklahoma City, and Paulo in Curitiba, Brazil, and we have Liz in Georgia, Tim and Tellervo and Paavali in Finland, and David in Jerusalem and many more that I pray for but they don’t want their name mentioned.

I am still on the road for a good three weeks and our brothers in Jerusalem are teaching and leading the congregation.  Please pray for our Jerusalem congregation and keep them daily in your prayers for safty and for good  health and for spiritual maturity and for prosperity and for growth.

May God be with you all and bless you,,

Joseph Shulam
