The Jerusalem Prayer List – August 5 2010

By Joseph Shulam

The modern Media is so very powerful and often it makes the news and does not only report it.  In the Word of God we have a very interesting story about the messenger who brought the bad news of King Saul and his son Jonathan’s death.

“Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag,  on the third day, behold, it happened that a man came from Saul's camp with his clothes torn and dust on his head. So it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the ground and prostrated himself.  And David said to him, "Where have you come from?"  So he said to him, "I have escaped from the camp of Israel." Then David said to him, "How did the matter go? Please tell me." And he answered, "The people have fled from the battle, many of the people are fallen and dead, and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also."  So David said to the young man who told him, "How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?"  Then the young man who told him said, "As I happened by chance to be on Mount Gilboa, there was Saul, leaning on his spear; and indeed the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.  Now when he looked behind him, he saw me and called to me. And I answered, "Here I am.'  And he said to me, "Who are you?' So I answered him, `I am an Amalekite.'  He said to me again, "Please stand over me and kill me, for anguish has come upon me, but my life still remains in me.'  So I stood over him and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after he had fallen. And I took the crown that was on his head and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord."   Therefore David took hold of his own clothes and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him. And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, for the people of the LORD and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.  Then David said to the young man who told him, "Where are you from?"  And he answered, "I am the son of an alien, an amalekite."    So David said to him, "How was it you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed?"   Then David called one of the young men and said, "Go near, and execute him!" And he struck him so that he died.  So David said to him, "Your blood is on your own head, for your own mouth has testified against you, saying, `I have killed the LORD'S anointed.' "  (2Sam. 1:1-16)

There are some good lessons to be learned from this story about the modern News manufacturing Media.  The first mistake of this son of an alien amalekite was to think that King David will be pleased with the news the his enemy is dead.  The second mistake is that this amelekite had the impression that bad news is good news and that he will be rewarded for making the news and reporting the news.  The third mistake is to think that he could actually take credit for the tragic events that either he participated or actually only witnessed.

These mistakes of this Amalekite are actually the same mistakes that so many in the modern media today make when they are reporting news that they actually had a hand in manufacturing and orchestrating.   Be very watchful for news from Israel because like the flotilla of the Turkish ship – it was a clear case of manufactured news, a setup of a stage, a trap both for political reasons and for strategic reasons of terrorist war.  They had the set ready and they had the camera rolling, and the actors were waiting on the deck for the victims to come down and be attacked with violence.  I have seen a very peaceful East Jerusalem neighborhood go into a violent rage the minute that CNN camera and anchorman appear on the scene.  The show is staged for the CNN camera and as soon as the Camera is turned off also the Arab violence calms down.  This is a part of the warfare against terrorism and the war of Islamic terrorist against Western Civilization, both against Judaism and Christianity.  In the case of King David it seems immediately understood that this messenger was actually nor reporting the news, but manufacturing the news.  The King also understood that the story is manipulated to please the ears of the hearer and not to just proper report of events.  In Israel today it is not a secret that the press and t.v. are heavily leaning toward the left wing of the political map.  In the West it is not a secret that the press and t.v. are leaning toward the liberal wing of the political map with a few exceptions.  As seekers of truth, and truth being measured by God’s Word, as the Bible says, “my word is truth,” we can’t allow ourselves to swallow everything we see and hear and we must measure all things and filter through the Word of God.  In fact we are commanded to do so:  “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” (1Th. 5:19-22)

Please continue to pray for Marcia.  She is making progress with aftr her knee surgery but she is still in pain and the doctors say that this is normal.

Please pray for Deborah, a little girl that is supposed to go to first grade in September.  She fall from the monkey-bars in the park and has a very complicated fracture of her hand and arm.  She had one surgery already and will probably have another surgery today.

Please continue to pray for our chronically ill brothers and sisters in Jerusalem, in Finland, in the United States and in Brazil.

Please pray for Netivyah’s finances.  It seems like this summer our financial picture is very weak.  We are not complaining not to God and not to all of you our dear brothers and supporters, but we are reporting.  Our policy is not so complicated.  We use what God has given us and we praise Him who’s mercy endures forever.  He is the ONE who gives seed to those who sow seed.

We appreciate so much all of you who continue to sacrifice and support and enable the Lord’s work and the food distribution and radio broadcast and the publications etc. etc. etc.  Thank you all and may God bless you.

The preparation and registration for the conference of the Marrano/Anussim Jews in Portugal continue and you can check the web page and see what is going on and continue to pray for the success of this event of much importance for the fixing a very unjust, horrid, chapter in Christian and Jewish History.  See: www.anussimconfrence.com

The Lord has put so many possibilities before us and we are so excited on the one hand and so challenged with the great things that God is doing in this great City of Jerusalem.

Thank you so much for your continued prayer and support.  God bless you all,

Joseph Shulam
