The Jerusalem Prayer List – October 16, 2010
by Joseph Shulam
Today in all the Synagogues of the World the weekly reading is from Genesis 12-16, the story of Abraham's call by God. Abraham is actually the key to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and only in Abraham can we actually have a real dialogue. The wars of the last fifty years have all been religious wars, but the West refuses to confess this and recognize it and fight it on the real battle field, the arena of ideas and Biblical teachings. In Israel it looks like the so called “peace talks” with the Palestinians are going no-where, and in fact this means that they are going toward a major breakdown and that spells war, a big war in the Middle East. We who love peace and love both Jews and Arabs must pray for our leaders and for the leaders of the world to have the wisdom of the ages and spare the world from this evil of war. Please pray for both the leaders of the Arabs and also for the leaders of Israel to look beyond and bring peace to this region only God can do it and only God can bring some good sense to the craziness of our times. We are all people who believe in God's power and His ability to change reality in a flash of a moment like He did for the children of Israel who were trapped between the Red Sea and the Egyptian Army, and like He did for the Daniel in the Lion's den. We are responsible for praying with faith in God's power and without a doubt in our heart knowing that God will vindicate His children in the End. Pray for Israel and remember that Israel must fear God and not any other power, not Egypt or Babylon, not America or Russia, not Iran or the United Nations. If we learn to fear God and not fear our fellow man, God will come to our help and save us from our enemies and from ourselves and our own sin. This is true for every nation and every disciples of Yeshua all around.
I ask you to pray for me personally. I shall be traveling this next week to Germany for three days, and from there to Korea, and from Korea to Japan. Three long weeks of service and teaching several hours every day. The teaching on this trip is going to be on topics that are rarely heard in most churches. One of the series that I will be teaching is about unusual women in the Bible. These are women from whom we can learn some very important wisdom for life. Please think of when you have heard a sermon or a teaching in depth on what are the lessons and wisdom that you can learn from the following women: Lot's daughters, Tamar, Pharaoh's daughter, Moses' mother Yocheved, Michal Saul's daughter, and the Canaanite woman from the Gospel, Please keep me in your prayers.
Netivyah's very special ministry to help Jewish Disciples of Yeshua get a higher education and upgrade their life. Many ministries give charity and so does Netivyah, but we don't only want to give charity to people. Many years ago we started the Higher Education Fund in Netivyah. We give a scholarship of 200 US dollars per month to Jewish Disciples of Yeshua who are bona-fide students in a recognized Academic Institution, like the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, or the University of Tel-Aviv, or other such institution. The scholarship is given for one school year i.e. for ten months. The students have to prove that they are good students and show us their grades and they have to be members of a Messianic Jewish Congregation. We now are fully loaded with students from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the University of Beer-Sheva, the University of Tel-Aviv, and Guide course school. This is important dear brothers because we are supporting several students who are going to be lawyers in Israel, and several who are going to be business people, and some who are going to be nurses and may be doctors, and some are going to guide tourists and teach. Netivyah has never asked for help with this fund, but since now we are committed to at least 20,000 dollars for this next school year, we are informing you of this need. You who are interested to see the Lord's Body in Israel get out from the need to ask for support and to seek help from abroad might consider this special fund because this is not a fund to give charity to the poor it is a program to see the Lord's Body in Israel equiped to take good care of it's own needs in the future and also have influential positions in society integrated into Israel.
We continue to pray for the sick among us. Sara has returned home from the convalescent home and Zvi is much happier now, but both need your prayers. Liora's memory is deteriorating, Ahuva's hearing is almost totally lost, Ilana is still coping with ear problems, Leah is dealing with sever Astma, Barry our son needs prayer and so does Danah our daughter, David our co-elder, Noya, Sarit, Maxine, Hadara is a young woman who was raised in our congregation and she is the daughter of one of our fine and faithful families. Hadara needs healing in more than one way and we ask you to pray for her. These brothers and sisters need God's touch of healing. In Korea we have a dear young sister from Jerusalem who needs a special measure of God's healing grace. In Finland we have our dear brother Tim Tucker who is battling A.L.S. In the United States we have Ruby who continues to suffer from a lot of pain and Liz who are dear sisters and in the Lord and need your prayers for healing. In Brazil we pray for Paulo, and Marcelo and Rosangela who are recovering from knee and foot surgery. Marcia my wife is getting better after the knee replacement surgery and we continue to pray for her mother June who is not feeling good.
The Soup-Kitchen is a constant battle of balance between our budget and those who daily knock on our door and fill request forms to receive food. It is hard to turn people back but we are doing all that is possible to keep every dollar that is contributed to go for food for the poor of Jerusalem.
The prayers that you have offered for building a home for the older generation of disciples who need special care are being heard. We have a wonderful dear brother and sister in Switzerland who are praying and doing what they can to bring progress to this very important project. We ask you to continue to pray for God to facilitate us to be able to build a home for the aged disciples of Yeshua in Jerusalem. Only in our congregation alone we have several members who are well over 80 years old and they can't sustain for long to live on their own. If we had a guarantee of at least 15,000 dollars per month we could rent a place and man it with good staff to house at least 6 old brothers and sisters and from there grow in the future. This is a need and a dream of many in the Body of the Messiah in this city. Pray for it please!
The developments in relationship to our building project are constantly in battle mode and we are in a constantly winning frame of mind. The opposition and some elements in city hall are doing their best to harass and stop us from building, but we are going to build and we are going to the supreme court of Israel in March to win and than immediately start building. Please keep us in prayer because God is really doing miracles in our behalf and these have to continue sustaining us. Your prayers for us are so very important and your support for Netivyah sustains our witness.
Bless Jerusalem and bless Netivyah,
Joseph Shulam
