The Jerusalem Prayer List – October 27 2010

by Joseph Shulam

From Seoul, South Korea.
I am already a week in Seoul.  My hosts here are taking such good care of me and it is so wonderful to be with people who love you and make every effort to feed and care for you.  On the other hand I have been teaching every day at least six hours and most of the days many more hours of teaching and meetings from 9:00 a.m. To 10:00 p.m.  I just love it because a teacher teaching people who are interested and eager to learn is like Brier Rabbit in the Brayer patch.  I am in my element among people who love God and love Israel and want to study the word of God.  On thursday I will be teaching a special seminar in the Chung Ann University.  Chung Ann is one of the big universities in Seoul, Korea.  It is a secular university but they do have a religion department and the head of the department is so very interested and excited about the Restoration of first century faith for the 21st century.  He has visited us in Israel and we had great fellowship.  He is reading the books that I have written and this is the third time that he has organized a special seminar to talk about biblical topics.  Thursday's seminar will be on the topic: God's Grace in the Torah and the New Testament.  I ask you to pray because teaching in a secular university is a wonderful challenge but if it is going to be effective God will have to bless it.

Please pray for our staff in Jerusalem because Yuda will be meeting me on Friday in Osaka, Japan, and Hannah will not be in the office too.  The staff of the office and the Soup-Kitchen are on their own without Yuda and with me and without Hannah.  Please pray for Netivyah that there should not be any problems while we are gone and that God will bless and protect and guide each one of our staff to stand to the challenge.

Please pray for Marcia.  She is alone at home and of course that is always a concern to me because her sugar and health situation.

Please continue to pray for our regular sick list from all around the world. Go to the prayer list from two weeks ago and pray again for the same brothers and sisters that you have been praying for.  I think that the situation of Grace our dear sister has changed dramatically and from the fear of multiple cancer tumors the last news is that some of these tumors have actually disappeared and her situation has greatly improved.  I know that this is only the hand of God that has made these changes in the body of our dear sister Grace.

In Japan Yuda and I both have a schedule that is full of teaching and traveling in four cities, Osaka, Fukuoka, Tokyo and Okinawa.  We will be teaching in seminars and churches and encouraging people to make a commitment to pray for the salvation of Israel and to work on the restoration movement to grow in Japan and in Asia.

Please keep praying for the conference in Portugal that is fast approaching and there is still so much to do and so much to prepare.  We are going to have people from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Germany, Spain, Israel, United States, Portugal, Brazil, and probably other places like Finland.  We really need grace from God to make this conference a success and call world wide attention to the plight and needs of the Anussim of Portugal and Brazil.

I want to make a comment on the use of the term “Benei Anussim” which means “sons of the Anussim.”  By saying “sons of . . .” the implication is that these people who are living today as “hidden Jews” are not really Jews, and therefore they must be forced to convert to Orthodox Judaism.  I object to this terminology because although five hundred years have passed since the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition started these people, the whole families, are still Anussim, they are still not restored to the fold and flock of Israel which they never really left from their own will and free choice.  These Anussim in Portugal has actually not intermarried with regular Catholic non-Jewish families up to fifty years ago.  The Orthodox Jewish Community could not make this claim because there are so many gentiles who have converted to Judaism and have intermarried with Orthodox Jews, and there are so many Jews who have totally lost their identity as Jews, but they are still considered good Jews.  The Anussim kept their Jewish identity even at the pain of death and they keep it still until this day in the mountains of northern Portugal.  Why should they be forced to submit and convert to Orthodox Judaism and submit themselves to adapt to the Ashkenazi traditions and teachings of the Orthodox Jewish establishment. The state of Israel accepted thousands of Ethiopians as Jews without conversion to Orthodox Judaism and they have accepted hundreds of thousands of Russian immigrants who are also not Jews and they did not force them to convert.  I expect to start a movement world wide to stand with these people and open the doors of Israel to these Jews who are victims of the Catholic church Inquisition and have been suffering and fearing that their identity as Jews would be discovered and they would be tortured and may be burned in the city square for lighting candles on Friday evening.  Please pray for us, for the city of Castelo de Vide and for EuroMar travel agency.

Well, God be with you and thank you for your prayers and support,

Joseph Shulam
