The Jerusalem Prayer List – December 9, 2010

by Joseph Shulam

The conference in Castelo de Vide, Portugal, was an overwhelming success.  Three days of lectures, prayer, and fellowship around the topic of the Marrano/Anussim – hidden Jews of Portugal was really an answer to our prayers.  In this conference participated people from Korea, Japan, Sweden, Germany, Finland, Portugal, Israel, United States of America, Switzerland, France, Brazil, and Holland.  Probably there were people from other countries but I don't remember meeting them.  According to one of the scholars what lectured in many of these kinds of conferences on this subject this one was the one if the biggest and also the best of these conferences in Portugal.  We had an interesting mix of Jews and non-Jews and Christians.  It is this mix of people from different backgrounds that made the conference interesting and in my opinion a great success.  We had the president of the Jewish Community of Portugal attend and Jewish newspaper reporters, and a Jewish scholar and Rabbi from Lisbon give an interesting lecture on Dona Gracia Nasi, who actually purchased the city of Tiberias from the Turkish Sultan in the 17th Century.  All the lectures were very interesting and on a high standard of scholarship, and the lecturers were some of the best experts on the subject of the Marrano/Anusim in Portugal, and Brazil.  The propose of this conference was to raise awareness of the plight of these forgotten people that neither the Orthodox Jewish community not the Christians are very interested in them.  One of our speakers on the conference is a very outspoken Catholic Priest and he was asked to give the official Catholic “line” and so he did, but when I spoke to him after his presentation he said, “This was the official Catholic position, but it is not my personal position.”  There will be a continuation of this move for the Marrano/ Anussim Jews of Portugal, and we will continue to both pray and seek for ways to make the world and especially Israel aware of these people who want to recover their Jewish identity but they don't want to be forced to convert to Orthodox Judaism. If they are forced to convert it is the facto a denial of their more than 500 years of persecution and trauma for being Jews and forcing them to accept the kind of Orthodox Judaism that has developed since in Easter Europe.  They simply don't want to be forced to receive any religion against their free will.

Please continue to pray for the Marrano/Anussim and for all of us in Netivyah and for all those from so many nations that participated and contributed to make this conference possible.

Our Israeli group is still in Portugal and we are planning to return home to Israel early next week.  Please keep us in prayer for safety and for good health for all of our travelers.  Please also pray for those who are at home in Israel and coping with the situation there and with the daily challenges.  Our office in Jerusalem is working to get into the printing press the new books that we are printing.  We have the “Hidden Treasures” going into print in German language, and we have a new book, “Israel God and the Church” in the Hebrew Language going into print, and soon also the English version will go into print.  Pray for the publication of this important material so that God can use it and bless it to be come a source of knowledge and understanding of some of the foundational issues of the Word of God and of our faith.

Please continue to pray for the sick in our prayer list.  There is not much change in the sick list, just look in the list from two weeks a go and pray for the same people.  I believe that God will be blessing and healing all these people.

It is a season for showing special love and special care for your family and friends and please look unto this season as an opportunity to stand for God and for His truth and for Yeshua our Lord and savior's commission to the whole world.

God bless you all and give you a great season and give Israel rain.  Israel has had practically no rain this year and we need that rain desperately.  Rain is a sign of God's favor and right now we need it so very much.
