The Jerusalem Prayer List – January 13, 2011
by Joseph Shulam
The challenges of Monotheism are not always obvious to many Christians. In fact many Christians don't realize that they are Monotheists or that they should be Monotheists. The idea that Christians should believe in One God and in One God only is not so obvious to most Christians, and in fact it is not so popular a teaching in most churches. In fact the Oneness of God is the main teaching of the whole Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. Here are some statistics from the Bible: The phrase “One God” is mentioned 12 times in the whole Bible, but out of these 12 times 9 times are in the New Testament. The phrase “God is One” or “The Lord is One” appears 5 times in the English Bible, and 3 times of the 5 are in the New Testament. The phrase “One God and Father” or alike appears 4 times in the Bible and 3 out of the 4 are in the New Testament. Of course there are more the 400 times in the whole Bible that it teaches that there is ONE God only using different terminology in passages like Isaiah 45:5-7, “I am the LORD, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me, that they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting That there is none besides Me. I am the LORD, and there is no other; I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the LORD, do all these things.” So, what are some of the consequences of Monotheism, the faith in One God, creator of the World, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? 1. There is only one source of Life in our World – God gives life. 2. We are children of One Father therefore we are brothers with all mankind. All colors, all races, all peoples, all nations, all tribes, are essentially brothers and sisters children of the One God who is our Father. 3. There is One plan and program for mankind and the developments of History. 4. Equality between races, social-economic, and equality before God's judgment seat, are all a part of being children of One Father. There is a responsibility to our fellow man because we have the same Father who created us and who sustains us and gives us life every day and every hour.
So, faith in One God is a great equalizer for the problems that plague our world today and in fact all through human history. Take the last killing of six innocent people in Phenix, Arizona. A person riddled with racial and political anger and hate took his gun and shot six people dead. Dorwan Stoddard, 76, was a pastor of Mountain Ave. Church of Christ in the area. U.S. District Judge John M. Roll, 63, who won wide acclaim for a career as a respected jurist and leader, had pushed to beef up the court's strained bench to handle a growing number of border crime-related cases, reported the Associated Press. Gabe Zimmerman, 30, a former social worker who served as Giffords' director of community outreach. Fox News said about Gabe. “He truly loved to help people.” Christina Taylor Green, 9, had recently elected to the student council at her school, and went to the event with a neighbor who thought the young girl may enjoy it. Dorothy Morris, 76. Phyllis Schneck, 79.
Many others were wounded by this racist who came to shoot a congresswoman who he just did not like partially because she is Jewish.
A person who believes in One God, who is a true Monotheist would have a difficult time rationallizing his motives for vain plain hate killing of innocent people, children, old people, young people, Christians and Jews or anyone else. It is beyond my understanding how people who claim to believe in Yeshua could actually be so full of hate and such racists. WE must all remember that we are children of One God, Creator of the Universe, Father of Yeshua our Messiah, giver of the Torah on Mt. Sinai, and deliverer of Israel out of slavery into His freedom. Of course I have to immediately write a disclaimer and state very clearly that although I believe that there is only One God and One Father of us all, I still believe in the total equality and unity of Yeshua with the Father, and believe in Yeshua's divinity 100%, but my understanding of Yeshua's divinity has to be understood from the whole Word of God and without compromising the fact that God is One.
Please continue to pray for the Food Distribution Program of Netivyah. Yuda our dear brother had a wonderful meeting with the city Social Work department and we are going to start the new program on the 1st of February 2011. We are starting with several families that we already have in the program and we will provide food for 100 families that the city of Jerusalem is helping. It is a big challenge for us to work with professional social workers that will do the screening and recommendation and oversee the followup to make sure that we are really helping those who need the help and those for whom the help that we are giving will be a real help to get out from their situation and improve their lives. Please lift up Yuda and the others who are working with this program.
We already have some dentists who are willing to volunteer and help with dental problems of children and older generation immigrants in Jerusalem. This is wonderful and I ask you to pray for our cooperation with the needs of the city of Jerusalem.
We also have some interesting developments and people who might be interested in helping us look into the possibility of filling the 30 minutes that we have lost from our Radio broadcasts when Through The Bible has lost their interest in the Hebrew broadcasts. If it is God's will we will restore the lost 30 minutes of Kol HaYeshua broadcasts in one way or another. Even if we have to put the extra 30 minutes on Internet Radio or find other ways to fill up these lost 30 minutes when the Lord will provide us with the means we are going to find the ways.
We have some special prayer needs for the sick. We ask you to continue praying for Merav who is a 24 year old bride who has a wedding scheduled for February and who on Sunday will go for breast surgery to remove at least one malignant lump. Please lift this young woman before the mercy seat of God so that by His grace a miracle of healing will take place on this young bride’s body and she will be a sign and a witness of God's goodness and power.
Marcia, my wife's father had a C.V.A. (stroke) yesterday afternoon and he is in the hospital. Considering his age (83) Marcia's father is doing well and I believe that he will recover from this stroke. We have prayed a few months ago for Ibrahim a childhood friend who had a massive stroke, could not talk, could not swallow, could not move anything on his right side, now Ibrahim is already at home and doing much better and even can talk a little. So, please lift up Marcia's father – his name is Horace, and also continue to pray for Ibrahim a dear Arab friend from a village in Jerusalem. Marcia will be traveling to the United States this week-end and she will go visit her family in East Tennessee. Please lift up Marcia in your prayers. Pray for her health to continue to improve and not have pain, and pray for safe travel, and pray for her to be a help and an encouragement to her family in Tennessee.
Please pray for our older generation members in Jerusalem who need God's gentle hand of grace and healing: Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Sara, Zvi, Sarit, and of course Marcia. In the United States I ask you to pray for Ruby our dear sister who is suffering pain for so many years, and for Beth our daughter-in-law who is also suffering from some health complications, and pray for Liz a dear sister in Georgia. I ask you to also pray for Bob an old high-school classmate who is suffering from health problems. Pray for our dear brother in Finland, Dr. Tim Tucker who is surviving A.L.S., for many years. Also in Finland please pray for a fast and total recovery of our dear brother Keijo, who had two knee replacement surgeries near two months ago. Pray for our dear brother Ishiida who is in Osaka suffering from old age and some old age complications. He is the father of our Ishiida brothers and a man who has done such a good job brining up his sons and even grandsons in faith and in the love of God for Israel. I also ask you to pray for Mr. Abe's mother in law who is approaching 100 year of age, who who is praying for Israel's salvation for near 80 years. Pray for strength and good health for our brothers the Muraoka brothers in Japan. They are working hard for the salvation of Israel and we need to lift them up for protection and good health.
I ask you to pray for the needs of brothers and sisters who are students in one of Israel's institutes of Higher Learning – the Universities. We have normally 10 scholarships that we give every year tb both Jewish and Arab students. Ten students per year is not little, but we have some serious pressure to add two or three more scholarships because there are more students today in the Universities in Israel who are Disciples of Yeshua. We give these scholarships because we want to see more young Disciples of Yeshua in this land raise up into the more successful in life and better servants of God.
Please pray for the outcome of the conference in Portugal last December. There are good reports and an honorable treatment of what the Lord led us to do in Portugal a month ago. We have put a seed in the ground and the seed is beginning to give fruit for the future of Israel and the Jews / New Christians of Portugal. We are praying for the immigration of hundreds of thousands of Jews from the Latin world who have to recover their Jewish Identity and not give up their family traditions.
There are many Jewish brothers and sisters who are looking for jobs in Israel and they are in need of your prayers. Netivyah helps in all that we can help those of our brothers who are in need, but we are asking you to lift these brothers up and have the Lord provide work and sustenance for these brothers and sisters.
Please pray for the Israeli government to have the wisdom and rightousness to do the right things and seek righteousness.
May God be with all of you and bless you in every way,
Joseph Shulam
