The Jerusalem Prayer List – August 13, 2009
Prayer can be a religious ceremony that is repetitious and vain, and it can be a very powerful communication with the force that Created this World and all that is in it. The Word of God has so many wonderful and powerful examples of the power of prayer. Most of the beautiful and very meaningful Psalms are really prayers of people who at times were under great oppression by enemies and by sin and by life circumstances and they cried to God for help from the very depth of their beings.
When I read the prayers of the Biblical heros I see
that although it is not so hard to say words and even beautiful and very emotionally moving words it is very hard to really communicate seriously and from the heart. I know that it is easy for me to speak to every day people and friends, but when I am supposed to speak to someone who is of great stature, a Prime Minister of a country, or a Supreme Court Judge, I freeze a little and count every Word very carefully. One has to have a very close relationship with God before he can relax and pour out his heart to the Almighty One of Israel. Those who have cried to God out of their pain and our of their sincere hearts with honest desire to change and repent from their sins seem to always be heard and answered with God’s grace. People who intercede for others and those who sacrifice their own status and position for the sake of weak and suffering seem also to be heard by God. Moses is probably the best example. When God wanted to destroy the whole nation Moses said to God: “On the next day Moses said to the people, “You yourselves have committed a great sin; and now I am going up to the LORD, perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” 31 Then Moses returned to the LORD, and said, “Alas, this people has committed a great sin, and they have made a god of gold for themselves. 32 “But now, if You will, forgive their sin―and if not, please blot me out from Your book which You have written!” 33 The LORD said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. 34 “But go now, lead the people where I told you. Behold, My angel shall go before you; nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.” Ex. 32:30-34
In fact this case of Moses and God is the second best true example of intercession. Yeshua the Messiah is the first and most significant intercessor and not only for the people of Israel, but for the whole of mankind. I suppose that if we take these examples of intercession and put them together with the Biblical teaching on intercession we will have to draw some important conclusions.
Rom. 8:27, “Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
Rom. 8:34, “Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”
Heb. 7:25, “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”
In all the cases that intercession is mentioned in the Bible the central element is the willingness to sacrifice. The intercessor is willing to sacrifice for those for whom he is interceding. The truth is that there is no prayers of intercession without a true willingness to give and sacrifice and pay the price for those for whom you are knocking on Heaven’s door and asking for mercy, forgiveness, and salvation, victory, or healing.
Those of you who are interceding for Israel and the salvation of the Jewish people need to realize that intercession without sacrifice might not be so effective. You might look for ways to sacrifice from your time and money for God and His Kingdom so that your intercession will be more effective.
The Netivyah and Roeh Israel travelers are beginning to come home from their summer travels. The whole country of Israel is beginning to prepare for the High Holidays of the month of Tishrey, the seventh month of the Jewish calender. The first thing that happens in the month before the High Holidays is the process of soul searching that every religious Jew ought to do. Thirty days before Rosh HaShanah Jews are commanded to search their souls and contemplate their mistakes and sins and seek forgiveness from the Lord. It is truly an amazing custom because we are talking for roughly 20% of the nation of Israel that seek the Lord and meditate on His mercy and forgiveness. Of course we can’t judge the work of God and He will have mercy on whom He will have mercy, but the sure of of the Lord is by faith in Yeshua the Messiah.
Israel is searching today for another kidnapped soldier. I pray that this news will be a false report, but I also pray that the world as a whole will begin to see the harsh reality that Israel is living in. We are the victims of Islamic aggression and terrorism and all we want is peace and quite existence in secure boarders. Israel has offered 98% of all that our Arab neighbors have asked for, but they are not satisfied with 98% they want more than 100% they want us to stop existing as a state and as a people. I don’t believe that this is God’s will and this is why I pray for Israel’s enemies to be blessed with good sense and with a true desire to see peace for their children and for the next generations. Please pray for me for the Arab / Palestinian people and especially for the Christian Community among the Arabs to be blessed by God and those who don’t know Yeshua as the Messiah will get to know Him and those who do know Him will actually receive the Word of God as the ultimate authority.
I continue to pray for those who are sick and seek healing from the Lord. I add to the list our dear sister Juju who has been suffering from muscular degeneration from early childhood and now has fallen for the second time and broken her thigh bone. She went through surgery and we all pray for her total healing and restoration of health and ability to walk. Marcia my wife is still dealing with the broken wrist. The doctor in Jerusalem has seen that the wrist was not set straight, but we pray the this will not affect the functionality of the hand. Marcia will have to wear the cast for two more weeks, but she can take it off for showers.
We ask you to concentrate your prayers for the older generation of prayer warriors in our congregation in Jerusalem. Especially pray for Ahuva. Her hearing has become very impaired and she can not hear anything even with the hearing aid and for this reason she finds it hard to come to the congregation. We pray for Ahuva, and Leah, Sara and Zvi, Sarit, Marcia, Miriam, Antonina, and David. We add David the brother of Joseph Vactor in our prayers. He is getting close to 90 years old and still lives alone and ministers to so many people with food and good deeds. We continue to lift up our dear brothers and sisters in other countries, Ruby in Oklahoma, and her mother who is close to 100 years old, and Lynn in San Antonio, TX, and Kathy in Denver, Colorado healing, and Sherry Brain from Boise, ID, and Sharon. Kemi in Japan needs your prayers, and Paulo in Brazil, and Tim, Helena and Tellervo in Finland all need the Grace of God in healing and strength.
Our dear brothers in Brazil have started a new school in Rio de Janeiro for the Messianic Jewish Community in that great city. We need to keep Marcelo and Matheus and the brothers who minister to the Jewish Messianic believers in Brazil in our prayers. The challenges are great and this is true for all those in Brazil who are interested in the Restoration of the New Testament church and the restoration of the Jewish people to their faith in God and in Yeshua the Messiah. I also ask you to pray for the congregation Netivyah in Vitoria, and Sar-El congregation in Curitiba, and the congregation in Salvador, Sao Paulo and Brasilia.
The project of restoration for the Marrano Jews of Portugal is progressing nicely. We are making more contacts with both Christian and Jewish Scholars and with politicians and leaders all around the world. Last week in Jerusalem there was the World Congress for Jewish Studies and one of the tracts of this congress was the issue of the Portuguese Inquisition and the Marrano Jews. The presentations were wonderful and I had a chance to share and talk to many of the people who made these presentations from all around the world. It is a sure thing that most everyone is in agreement that it would not be right for the Jewish Establishment in Israel to force convert these people who have kept their Jewish Identity in secret for more than 500 years. Most everyone is in agreement that we have to welcome and claim these people back into the fold of Israel and allow them to be and believe and retain their traditions and particular form of Judaism. It was so refreshing to see that we are not alone in this battle and that God has been paving a highway for us to travel on until we see these millions of Jews restored with their faith and identity back into an open practice and lifestyle of Jewish Disciples of the Messiah. Please keep the conference in 2010 in your prayer and support this effort. We are going to need several tens of thousands of dollars to put together this conference and bring the number one scholars and teachers and leaders to Portugal and to Israel to make an international impression of the true attitude and faith of Jewish disciples of Yeshua in the first century and today.
Please pray for the health of Barry my son. He has been having trouble with his digestive system for several weeks and may be months. I pray for his quick healing in Yeshua’s name.
Thank you dear brothers and sisters for your prayer and your support and your desire to see the Kingdom of God be victorious in this world and your wish to see Yeshua coming back soon and finding love and faith in this World, at least among you and us!
Blessings upon you and yours,
