The Jerusalem Prayer List – December 30, 2016

By Joseph Shulam

The reading this Shabbat in the Synagogue is from Genesis 41:1 – 44:17 – the Hebrew name is: Mikeitz. This is the center part of the story of Joseph in Egypt and the interlude of Joseph with his brothers.  I want to concentrate Joseph’s success throughout his difficult journey. Normally a person who is cast into jail with false accusations even if released from prison does not climb to the top leadership of Egypt.   See how Genesis describes Joseph’s position in Egypt: And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”   Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. And he had him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, “Bow the knee!” So, he set him over all the land of Egypt. Pharaoh also said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.”  (Genesis 41:41–44 NKJV)

So, what is the secret of Joseph’s success in Egypt!  Last week I wrote about Joseph’s un-ending optimism and trust in the vision and dreams that God had given him.  This week I would like to have a short analysis of his success in front of Pharaoh and the Egyptians.

  1.    Joseph is in Prison – He is doing what he knows to do best.  He does not mind to be of service and be helpful even to Egyptians.  He has no bitterness in his heart.
  2.     He is accepting of the circumstances and does the best to be honest and sincere with everyone around him.
  3.     He gives the best advice to Pharaoh and his men for what is the best for Egypt.  (Joseph has no double allegiance.  Now that he is instated as an Egyptian he does not forget his origin but gives 100% of his abilities to be a blessing to Egypt.  This is important because we have half of the Jewish population of the World and many of Joseph type civil servants in the United States have been secretaries of the treasury.  These are leaders of the financial pyramid of the United States and they have saved the United States and Europe from bankruptcy.  The legacy of Joseph in Egypt has similarity to many Jews who have not only succeeded in prospering in their countries in Europe and in the USA and even in South America.
  4.     Jews like Joseph in Egypt strive to excel in their work and jobs in the diaspora.
  5.     Joseph did not only give an interpretation to Pharaoh’s dream, but he gave practical advice of how to avoid the suffering and hunger of the Egyptians during the sever lean years.
  6.     Joseph made himself needed in every place that he landed.  He did it by giving the best service that he can to both friends and those who were even less than friends. Just think of it, he was a slave in the house of Potiphar, and yet he did such a good job as a slave that Potiphar made him the in-charge of his house hold.

If you feel that are rejected by people and not holding on to your job and your heart is bitter and envious of others! Stop! Start looking for ways to bless and to serve and to excel in whatever small jobs you have even if these jobs don’t fit your real worth.  Take the example of Joseph no matter where you are don’t be an alien find a place where you can contribute and do your best job.  After that just wait upon the Lord and pray!

This last week it has been the Festival of Hanukkah.  Hanukkah is mentioned in John 10:22“Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter.” In fact, this is one of the earliest mentioning of Hanukkah (The Feast of Dedication).  On the first night of Hanukkah the United Nations Security Council voted one of the most outrageous anti-Israel decisions.  The decision passed because the United States who has the power of veto obtained. I would like to first ask you to pray and pray fervently for Israel, and for the USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, Angola, New Zealand, Russia, Ukraine, and others.  In the last years, the United Nations Security Council voted 20 times against Israel.  During this time, you have Syria killing some 800,000 people and more than 200,000 of them Christian – The U.N. Security Council – has passed no resolution against Syria.  You have a bloody war against Christians in South Sudan – The U.N. Security Council – is deaf and dumb – no vote no resolution no condemnation. Iraq – Turkey – and others have committed crimes against humanity – arrested tens of thousands of people without any evidence – executed people without due process.  The United Nations has been like the three monkeys, See No Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil, for the whole world, only for Israel they use the Hubbard Telescope to see even what does not exist and to condemn Israel.  Please let me tell you, dear friends all around the World what are the consequences of this United Nations decision are for Christians and Jews!

Here is one of the most senseless statements in this resolution: UN Security Council “will not recognize any changes to the 4 June 1967 lines, including with regard to Jerusalem, other than those agreed by the parties through negotiations”; and “calls” upon all states “to distinguish, in their relevant dealings, between the territory of the State of Israel and the territories occupied since 1967.”

This statement alone is stating that East Jerusalem is occupied territory, the East Jerusalem including the city of David is occupied territory, Hebron the first Royal Capital of King David is occupied territory . . . .  and therefore, per the U.N. don’t belong to Israel and Israel can’t build or change anything in all the “occupied territories.”  Think about this UNESCO passed a resolution that East Jerusalem, including the Wailing Wall, and the City of David, has nothing to do with Jews – it belongs to the Arabs/Palestinians.  Now the U.N. Security Council votes that Israel can’t change anything since 1967.  Well, I walked the streets of the Old City of Jerusalem on June 1967.  The surge was flowing in an open channel down the streets of the Old City, there was no running water in some of the neighborhoods, and the Jewish Quarter was destroyed.  In Hebron for 700 years Jews and Christians were not allowed to enter the tomb of Abraham, Isaac, Sara, Rebecca, Leah and Jacob.  Since June, 1967, everyone Jews, Muslims, Christians, all are welcome and free to visit every part of Jerusalem, Hebron, and everywhere else that Israel is ruling.

For Israel, we don’t have to be worried too much, but we do have to pray that the reaction of the Israeli government will be wise and proper and in concert with the will of God.

Pray for the U.S.A. – because the last 8 years have been some of the most difficult because the administration said one thing about Israel and behind the scenes did the opposite.  You all know the promises of God in relationship to Israel:

  •     “I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”” (Genesis 12:3 NKJV)
  •     ““Up, Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.”   For thus says the LORD of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye. For surely I will shake My hand against them, and they shall become spoil for their servants. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me.”  (Zechariah 2:7–9 NKJV)

Pray for Israel! With the B.D.S. boycott Israel movement and now the United Nations decision against Israel the Arabs/Palestinians are getting a back wind to propel them, and encourage them back into more active organized terrorism against Israel.

Pray for the entrance of 2017.  The challenges of peace in the Middle East, the challenges that the United States President Elect D. Trump will face when he takes office in after January 20, 2017.  Pray for the Israeli government to have divine wisdom in both internal issues and external issues that Israel is facing. Without God’s help Israel can’t survive.

Pray for the developments among the Orthodox Jewish Rabbis who have an open mind and see the blessing and benefit for the Jewish people and the World in restoring a proper relationship with the communities of Jewish Disciples of Yeshua in Israel and in the World.

Barry our son is still coping with an open wound in his stomach and the wound is still leaking.  Please pray for the wound to dry and continue the healing and the closing of the hole.  Barry and Beth are brave and they don’t complain (too much) but they do covet prayer and God’s healing touch to speed up the healing and the return to work and normal life.

Keep praying for all our sick list and pray for their healing.

We lift up our dear brothers and sisters Ruby, Clara, Paulo, Naomi, Tim Tucker, Anna, Anne-Mirijami, Satu-Maria, Anna-Majia, Sinni Tuuli, Erki and Sirpa, and Evelina, Eva H., Liz in Georgia, and Horace and June Marcia’s parents.

We especially lift up before your throne of mercy Marcelo’s father and mother in Belo-Horizonte. We pray for the following dear brothers and sisters: Pastor Curita in Tokyo, Toru San, and the husband of Yumi, Sadako San, Shoko San, Takeo Sensei and Tomoko San all in Japan.

Happy New Year to all of you!  May the Good LORD bless each one of you with a year of clarity in your faith, for a year of good health, for a year of healing both Body and Soul and relationships, for a year of prosperity in both the things of this world and especially for the Spirit of God to prosper in you!

God bless you in 2017,

Joseph Shulam
